This lovely necklace is made from vintage milagro folk charms in a variety of shapes as well as vintage metal crosses and center pieces that were rescued from broken vintage rosary necklaces. The vintage green beaded chain was also one part of a rosary necklace.
Milagros are religious folk charms that are traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico, the southern United States, other areas of Latin America, and parts of the Iberian peninsula. They come in many different shapes and are frequently attached to altars, shrines, and sacred objects found in places of worship, and they are often purchased in churches and cathedrals, or from street vendors. These particular milagro charms came from a memorable trip to Austin, Texas! In Spanish, the word milagro means miracle or surprise.
